What's the difference between immediate load and immediate placement?
Immediate placement means the tooth is extracted and the implant is placed on the same day, but a temporary tooth is not necessarily attached. Immediate load means a temporary crown or prosthesis is attached to the implant the same day it's placed. Immediate load delivers same-day teeth. Immediate placement just delivers same-day surgery. The two approaches can be combined for true same-day teeth.

How much does an immediate load dental implant cost in Albuquerque?
Single tooth immediate load is approximately $5,000 (includes implant, abutment, final crown and the immediately-loaded temporary crown). Immediate load short bridges vary based on number of implants and span. Full-arch immediate load (such as
All-on-4) starts at approximately $16,000 per arch.

Does immediate load hurt more than traditional implants?
No. The procedure feels similar to standard implant placement. Local anesthesia and sedation options keep you completely comfortable. Most patients describe mild soreness for a few days afterward, easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Recovery is typically the same as traditional implants.
Will the temporary tooth look natural?
Yes. The temporary crown is custom-made to match the shape, shade and contour of your surrounding teeth. Most people won't be able to tell which tooth is the temporary. The temporary's job is to look natural, support gum architecture and stay out of heavy bite forces during healing.
Can I eat normally with an immediate load implant?
Soft foods only for the first several weeks. The temporary crown is designed to look natural and let you speak, smile and eat soft foods normally, but it's not built for full bite force. Avoid hard nuts, ice, crusty bread, tough meats and anything that requires biting hard. The final permanent crown handles full chewing once integration is complete.
Do immediate load implants fail more often than traditional implants?
No. With proper case selection, primary stability verification (typically 35 to 70 Ncm of insertion torque) and careful occlusal control, success rates for immediate load implants are comparable to traditional staged loading. The key is rigorous patient selection and CBCT-guided planning. Not every patient qualifies for immediate load, and we never push it on cases that aren't ideal.
Who is a good candidate for immediate load dental implants?
Good candidates have favorable bone density, achieve high insertion torque (35 to 70 Ncm depending on system), have controllable occlusion (don't grind heavily), have no active periodontal infection and have healthy soft tissue. Best applications are front-tooth aesthetic cases and full-arch reconstruction (All-on-4 / All-on-6). A 3D CBCT scan during your free consultation determines candidacy.
How long does the temporary crown stay in place?
The temporary stays in place for 3 to 6 months while the implant fully integrates with your jawbone (osseointegration). Soft tissue heals within the first 1 to 2 weeks. Early bone stability is achieved by 3 to 6 weeks. Once integration is confirmed, the temporary is replaced with a custom permanent crown built for full bite force and long-term durability.
What happens if I don't qualify for immediate load?
We use a staged approach: implant placement first, with 3 to 6 months of healing before the crown is attached. If bone is insufficient, we may recommend
bone grafting, ridge augmentation or
sinus lift first. The end result (a strong permanent implant) is the same. The path just takes longer to ensure long-term success.
Can I request immediate load if my dentist didn't suggest it?
Yes. We're happy to evaluate candidacy with a 3D CBCT scan and clinical exam. Whether you're a candidate depends on your bone, your bite, your specific case and your goals. We give you a clear yes or no with the data to back it up, plus alternatives if immediate load isn't the safest path for your case.
Is immediate load covered by dental insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. Many dental insurances cover a portion of the crown or prosthesis even when they don't cover the implant itself. We verify your benefits up front and explain exactly what's covered before treatment begins. Financing through Cherry, CareCredit and Sunbit is available for the rest.
